3. Keep a hole in the ice
Oxygen needs to get into the water while Carbon Dioxide needs to escape. This gas exchange can only happen if there are open areas in the ice. If holes aren't provided, this exchange won’t happen and your pond will be on a fast track to disaster. Horse trough heaters, air diffusers or small pumps that keep the surface of the water moving all can be used to keep the ice at bay.
